An Exhibition Review
‘True Colours’
Following on from our last post, our ‘True Colours’ exhibition has now come to an end, all the fabulous artwork has been taken down from the walls and we have closed the doors on the gallery space at Truro High School for Girls.
Whilst there were some sales, there are so many other positive things about this exhibition to be celebrated. Success comes in many guises and we are very proud of how all of our work, from many different genres, sat beside each other so beautifully on the walls of the gallery.

If you’d like to see more of the exhibition, artwork and read an introduction to the artists involved, our previous Substack article can be read here. The exhibition can also be viewed online via the Prime website.
Open Evening
We held a very well attended Open Evening mid way through the exhibition when many of the artists were present to chat to visitors about their work. It was a lovely atmosphere of arty chat, friendly exchanges and new connections made.
Cathy Freeman, one of our artists, put on the most delicious spread of food - she has certainly set a high standard to reach for any future exhibitions we might hold! The nibbles and bubbles were received with great enthusiasm and helped to create a relaxed and very sociable event.
A shoutout to our event sponsor Paul Walton who provided the refreshments. He makes many of the frames used by our group’s members and we really appreciate his support. You can find Paul and his frames on Instagram here.
It was great to observe people’s reactions to the art on the walls, which was all very positive and complementary; many commented on the high standard of work on display. As artists, we don’t always get to have that personal interaction with people in front of our work especially if we sell through galleries, so that in itself is always a valuable experience.
Collaboration
Exhibiting at the school has created a great collaborative opportunity with the students and it was interesting and a pleasure for us to observe the classes of girls attend the gallery regularly throughout the two weeks to gain inspiration for their own work.

‘Each student observed and selected a piece of artwork they felt a personal connection to, creating a sketch in response. The visit provided an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world art, as many of the pieces feature colours, textures and subjects that complement the students’ ongoing exploration of Cornwall.’ ( school newsletter)
In addition to our exhibition, the school has welcomed our artists for residencies which have been such a great experience for the members of Prime that have taken part in those so far. We hope to continue with this valued connection with the school into the future.

Better Together
What better success is there to celebrate than to acknowledge how over 30 artists have come together to create, curate, invigilate and administrate such a fabulous show of work. Well done to all involved - it really did look fantastic!
